through — Privacy Policy

through records your rides on your device and, optionally, uses online features you switch on one at a time. It is built privacy-first: we do not create an account for you and do not ask for your name, email, or phone number. A master network switch (Settings → Data & privacy) turns off every upload and download for good; below it, each online feature has its own toggle.

What the app handles on your device

• Precise location (GPS) — the core function: your ride is a track of positions, speed, and time, recorded on the device.
• Motion sensors — accelerometer/gyroscope/compass, recorded as part of the ride.
• Vehicle telemetry (optional) — if you connect a supported motorcycle over Bluetooth (e.g. a Yamaha CCU), readings such as RPM, speed, coolant, and gear are recorded alongside the ride, like the phone's own sensors.
• Camera video (optional) — if you start the camera, video is saved to your own device's photo gallery. These clips stay on your phone; they are never uploaded to us and are not part of cloud backup.
• Voice notes — text only, recognized on your device. Your device's own speech recognizer turns a voice note into text on the device (through requests offline recognition and reports "unavailable" rather than sending audio anywhere). The audio never leaves your phone and is never stored — only the resulting text.
• An anonymous instance ID — a random identifier for your install (not an advertising ID, not tied to your identity). Reinstalling generates a new one.
• A display name you type (optional) — only for group rides; you choose it.

We do not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos/media, audio recordings, or a stable device/advertising identifier, and we use no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.

Online features and the data they use

Each is a separate switch. With the master switch off — or a feature's own toggle off — nothing for that feature leaves your device.

• Cloud backup — when on, your recordings upload over an encrypted connection to storage scoped to your install, so you can restore them. Raw camera video is never included.
• Group riding & planning — while you're in a group, your live position is shared with ride-mates; if you mark yourself public, it's visible to everyone on the public map. Route plans you create are computed and stored on our server so they can be shared with a group. All opt-in; sharing stops when you leave or close the group.
• Crash & diagnostics — crash/error reports and any in-app feedback you send (the text you type plus a screenshot of the through screen you were on — never your other apps or photos), sent to our first-party cloud. Device model/OS version is attached to help reproduce problems.
• Map tiles — map imagery downloaded to draw the map.
• Essential — the online baseline any online feature needs: minting your anonymous instance ID, checking your plan and for app updates, and downloading translations. Governed by the master switch.

Nearby remote control — local only

The nearby feature lets one phone control another directly over a local Bluetooth link between the two phones. This data never leaves the two devices and never reaches us, so it is independent of the cloud master switch and has its own toggle for full radio silence.

Sharing, storage, retention

• We do not sell your data or share it with third-party advertisers or data brokers. The only sharing is the group/public position visibility above, at your choice.
• Rides are stored on your device up to a size cap you control; when full, the oldest are removed first. Camera clips live in your device gallery, under your control.
• Cloud recordings (if you enable backup) follow our retention policy and can be deleted by you.

Your controls

• Master network switch and per-feature toggles in Settings → Data & privacy.
• Delete any ride from your phone in Trips; camera clips from your gallery.
• Set your on-device storage cap in Settings.
• Delete your cloud recordings in Settings → Data & privacy → Delete my cloud data (see /delete).
• Uninstalling removes on-device data; a new install starts fresh.

Security

Data in transit is protected with TLS; cloud storage is encrypted at rest.

Background location

through accesses location in the background so recording continues with the screen off during a ride. It runs only while you are recording or discoverable in a group, shown by an ongoing notification, and never for ads.
